Kiss – Gradation Polishes (pink)

These products were sent to me by the company or its PR company for my honest review.

Kiss Gradation polishes are such a cute idea – they come in a box of three polishes in the same color family and makes gradients quite easy. The first polish is a sheer pale pink glitter polish with opalescent glitter particles, the second one is a frosty magenta colored polish and the last one is a sheer but bright magenta colored glitter polish that also contains opalescent glitter particles.

There is a little book in the pack that describes the way Kiss likes to do gradients, which I must admit was new to me. The idea is to first paint your nails with the lightest color and let it dry, then add some of the medium color to the tip of the nail and then blend it out with the darkest color. The lightest and darkest colors are so sheer it makes the blending possible.

The lightest pink is very sheer and it’s impossible to build it up to full opacity. The photos above shows two coats on it’s own. To make sure you can’t see the transparency, I’d recommend you apply the medium color over your visible nail line, and let the pink of your naked nails act as underwear for the lightest one.

And the result? Well, it’s quite stunning:

So here I’ve added the medium color to the tips of my nails and then smeared it out with the dark color and it kind of worked! I can still see a bit of a line between the light and dark, so I wouldn’t say this is a “perfect” gradient (I usually do mine with a foundation sponge), but it definitely worked better than I thought it would. I think I might have waited too long between step two and three, since I added the medium color on all four fingers before I added the dark, which might have made the medium color dry slightly and not got smeared as well.

What do you guys think? I think this would be a great gateway into the world of gradients if you’re not too experienced but still like the style, or if you just couldn’t be bothered with the mess that sponges cause. Here in Sweden, this set is available in beauty stores such as Åhléns and Kicks at a price of SEK 159. All Kiss products can be found on their website www.kissusa.com.
